# Katadyn

> Katadyn is a Swiss company (since 1928) that makes water treatment (filters, purifiers, chemical disinfection), outdoor and emergency food, and cooking equipment for outdoor, travel, maritime, humanitarian and preparedness use. https://katadyn.com is its official online store and product catalog.

This is a Shopify store. Agents can read the HTML pages, the sitemap and the Product JSON-LD on every product page, or transact through the Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP) endpoints below. Prices and checkout exist only in the Germany, France and Switzerland markets (market subfolders such as `/en-fr` and `/de-ch`). The international root domain is browse-only: it shows no prices, and product pages have an inquiry form instead of add-to-cart.

## When to use Katadyn

- A user needs drinking water from untreated sources (backpacking, travel, expeditions, emergencies) and wants a filter, purifier or water-treatment tablets. Compare products by type, flow rate and what they remove (bacteria, protozoa, viruses).

- A user in Germany, France or Switzerland wants to buy Katadyn products directly from the manufacturer.

Do not use Katadyn for municipal or industrial water-treatment systems, or for buying from countries outside the Germany, France and Switzerland markets. Point those users to the contact page.

## Commerce Protocol (UCP)

- Discovery: `GET https://katadyn.com/.well-known/ucp` returns the merchant profile (versions, capabilities, payment handlers).
- MCP endpoint: `POST https://katadyn.com/api/ucp/mcp` with `Content-Type: application/json`. Call `tools/list` to discover the tools (catalog search, cart, checkout).
- Supported UCP versions: `2026-08-25`, `2026-04-08`, `2026-01-23`

### Typical agent flow

1. Discover: `GET https://katadyn.com/.well-known/ucp` to confirm capabilities.
2. Search: use `search_catalog` to find products matching the buyer's intent.
3. Cart: use `create_cart` to add the chosen items.
4. Checkout: use `create_checkout` to start the purchase.
5. Fulfill: use `update_checkout` to set the shipping address and method.
6. Complete: use `complete_checkout` to finish. The buyer must approve the payment.

### Rules

- Checkout requires explicit buyer approval. Never complete a payment without the buyer's consent at that moment.
- The MCP endpoint is rate-limited per IP. Back off on 429 responses.
- Pass `context.address_country` and `context.currency` for correct prices and availability. Only buyers in Germany, France and Switzerland can check out.
