Bike Explorer | Documentary Filmmaker | Author | Speaker

Born in France and based in Provence, Cédric Tassan has spent more than two decades exploring the world's forgotten mountain ranges by bicycle. A filmmaker, author and explorer, he travels alone through some of the most remote regions on Earth, driven by a simple conviction: the greatest adventures are found where curiosity meets human connection.

Far beyond the pursuit of performance, his expeditions seek to understand the cultures, landscapes and people who inhabit places rarely visited by outsiders. From the high plateaus of Central Asia to the isolated valleys of Afghanistan, every journey becomes a story—one that he later shares through documentaries, books and conferences.

Beyond the Last Pass – Afghan expedition 2024-2025

Some adventures are measured in kilometres. Others are measured in encounters.

For Cédric Tassan, exploration begins where the map becomes uncertain. The bicycle is simply the tool that allows him to disappear into landscapes where roads end, where mountains dictate the rhythm of life, and where every day depends on self-reliance.

Over the last several years, his work has led him deep into the mountains of Afghanistan. Alone, carrying everything he needed to survive, he crossed remote valleys and high passes to meet communities whose traditions have endured for centuries despite isolation and political upheaval. Rather than documenting conflict, Cédric chose to tell a different story—one of dignity, resilience and the extraordinary hospitality found in the world's highest villages.

These expeditions gave birth to two documentary films that offer a rare and deeply human perspective on Afghanistan through the eyes of its mountain people. His latest production, Peuples en sursis, is currently touring cinemas and mountain film festivals throughout France before an exceptional screening at the legendary Grand Rex in Paris in 2027.

Weeks away from civilisation demand absolute trust in every piece of equipment. Access to safe drinking water, the ability to prepare a warm meal after a day spent above 4,000 metres, and reliable food supplies become essential—not only for comfort, but for continuing the journey. Throughout his expeditions, Katadyn water filters, Optimus stoves and Trek'N Eat meals are part of the system that allows him to remain completely autonomous in some of the world's most demanding environments.

Yet equipment is never the destination.

What drives Cédric forward is the possibility of discovering another valley, another culture, another conversation shared over tea in a mountain village. His films invite audiences to look beyond borders and headlines, revealing the universal stories that connect people across continents.

As Peuples en sursis continues its nationwide tour, Cédric is already looking towards his next horizon. Somewhere between the mountains of the Middle East and Central Asia, another expedition is quietly taking shape—another opportunity to explore, to listen and to tell stories that deserve to be remembered.
