Beyond Limits: 35 countries, 35 summits, 100 % human powered

Tobias Renggli is 23, from Switzerland, and happiest outdoors – on foot, on the bike, in the mountains. At 16 he became Swiss mountain running champion. At 18 he cycled alone through all 44 countries of Europe, visiting every capital city and climbing every highest peak: seven months, an average of 180 kilometres and 2,000 metres of elevation gain per day, entirely unmotorized. In between he studied at ETH Zurich. In 2024 he climbed the highest points of all 26 Swiss cantons in just three weeks – the film was shown in 15 countries already.

Since April 2026 he has been on his biggest project so far. "Beyond Limits" takes him from Alaska to Patagonis over roughly two years: 40,000 kilometres through all 35 countries of North, Central and South America, only by bike, on foot and by sailing boat. In every country he climbs the highest mountain. It started in May 2026 with Denali (6,190 m), the coldest mountain in the world. Next come the rarely climbed Mount Logan in Canada, the volcanoes of Central America, 15 Caribbean islands by sailing boat, expeditions deep in the Amazon rainforest, and finally the almost 7,000-metre Andean peaks all the way down to Patagonia.

What drives Tobias is not records but a simple question: how far can you get under your own power? And what stays with him are not the summits, but everything in between – people at the roadside, detours, moments you cannot plan. Those are the stories he later tells on stage, in film and in his book.
On a journey like this, drinking water is a daily basic question – from glacier streams in Alaska to dusty desert stages and murky jungle rivers in Central America. Tobias filters with the Katadyn BeFree. For warmer countries in Central and South America, the Katadyn Explorer Pro will now also be in use.
